The new 8,200 square-metre J.K. Irving Centre in Bouctouche, New Brunswick has received the 2012 Premier's Award for Energy Efficiency in the commercial new construction category.
The multifunctional complex, which includes the new town hall, a gym, a walking track, and an NHL-sized rink, opened its doors to the community in October 2011.
The building's energy efficiency features reduce the operating costs by over 50 percent compared to a similar structure that simply meets the minimum energy design standard.
