Educational Partnerships
We take pride in our long-term partnerships with education leaders in the communities where we live and work. These programs provide valuable experiences to many students every year.
Take Your Kids To Work Day
“Take Your Kids to Work Day” is a nation-wide event providing an opportunity for students in grade 9 to learn about the world of work. Students gain knowledge of their parents’ professions, and it allows them to explore career options while understanding the importance of lifelong learning. We are focused on:
- Reinforcing the importance of an education
- Encouraging student interests
- Showcasing our workplaces as positive and supportive environments that contribute to our community
Job Fest
Job Fest offers a unique opportunity for grade 11 high school students to prepare for their summer job search. This annual event is sponsored by J.D. Irving, Limited (JDI) and the Educational Partnership Centre of Greater Saint John. Students create their resumes, apply for mock jobs and participate in job interviews. Students are then given valuable feedback about their performance.
University Co-op
An active partner in co-op education, we provide work term experiences to approximately 50 university students. Co-op students provide JDI with valuable work and allow managers to identify potential candidates for full-time employment opportunities.
Community College Co-op
We support partnerships in education, and we are the "Co-Op Connection" with strong educational ties to local universities, colleges and high schools. In partnership with the New Brunswick and Nova Scotia Community Colleges, we developed The Tuition Incentive Program that offers financial incentives for qualified applicants to attend one of these colleges in certain programs, specifically in trades and technology.
Career Preparation
Resume writing, interview techniques and employability skills are just a few of the seminars that we present to students in both high school and middle school. We host these seminars to help students prepare for their future entry into the workforce, whether it is a summer, co-op, intern or full-time opportunity. Skills such as communication, problem solving, and maintaining a positive attitude and behaviour also help them progress through their careers.
