Cavendish Farms employee Benjamin Kummer helps put out a car fire

When Benjamin (Ben) Kummer spotted smoke rising down the road from where he works at the Cavendish Farms Port Elgin Seed Farm in New Brunswick, he didn’t hesitate. The Equipment Operator jumped into the farm’s water truck and drove to the car that was on fire by the side of the road.

By the time he arrived, the fire had started to spread to the ditch, and two local volunteer firefighters were working to contain it. Ben started the water pump and handed them the hose, providing a steady water supply to help control the fire. Thanks to his quick response, the firefighters were able to control the blaze several minutes before the firetruck arrived.

His actions came during the hot, dry summer, when even a small spark could have easily grown into a larger wildfire, potentially causing significant damage to nearby fields and forested areas.

“Ben’s the kind of person who doesn't panic,” said Benjamin Hunter, Farm Manager in Training at Cavendish Farms. “He didn’t hesitate to do what was needed and it’s a great example of his work ethic.”

Ben’s response shows the strong sense of responsibility and care that keeps people and property safe — qualities that make a real difference both on and off the job.
