Headquartered in Saint John, we are a 364 kilometre (226 mile) short line railway that operates a modern 95,000 square foot distribution centre, and is heavily engaged in several truck/rail reload operations that includes:
- Wood chip
- Wood pulp
- Dry bulk transfers
Our distribution centre provides indoor railcar loading and caters to customers who are not directly served by rail. NBSR and our U.S. affiliate, Eastern Maine Railway (EMR), provide strategic rail connections to North America with three connecting partner railways. These include:
- Canadian National (CN) Railway – Saint John, New Brunswick
- Pan Am Rail – Mattawamkeag, Maine
- Montreal Maine & Atlantic (MMA) Railway – Brownville Junction, Maine
We provide terminal operations in Saint John, New Brunswick with local switching services to major industrial customers including direct access to the Port of Saint John. In addition, we operate a branch line between McAdam and St. Stephen, New Brunswick providing service to customers in Charlotte County and Maine's Washington County.
We have the ability to handle over-size/over-weight shipments and have been active in several military equipment moves. We also offer track maintenance services to customers with private rail sidings.

Safety and Security
NB Southern Railway is a certified member in the Customs – Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) with the United States.
We succeeded in reducing litres burned per 1000 gross ton miles by 12.4% – equalling 550,000 litres of diesel fuel per year! Smart Start devices on our locomotives automatically shut down engines to reduce fuel consumption.

We provide play spaces for inner city schools, and train rides in support of UNICEF and other great community causes.
