Caring for the Land that Sustains Us
Our business begins with the forest. Our role as stewards of the land is one of the most important we play. We depend on the renewable forest resource for the wood supply that sustains thousands of jobs and an integrated value chain – from trees to tissue. Ensuring healthy forests for habitat and wood fibre – today and for future generations – is our commitment.
We own and manage land in Canada’s Maritime Provinces and the Maine, including:
- Freehold ownership of approximately 725,000 hectares in New Brunswick
Ownership of approximately 105,000 hectares in Nova Scotia - 1.25 million acres of freehold land in Maine, USA
- In addition, we manage 1,000,000 hectares of public Crown License in New Brunswick. We manage these lands in six separate operating districts that include: Black Brook, Deersdale, Chipman-Miramichi-St. George, Sussex, Nova Scotia, and Maine.

While the objective of our land ownership strategy is to provide a reliable and sustainable timber supply for our mill operations, we buy, sell and trade forest products with other operators in the region. We are very diligent in our land management to protect ecological and environmental values. We work actively with governments, communities, sportsmen, and other stakeholders to encourage, maintain and enhance social and recreational values and opportunities.
The lands we own or manage are guided by a 100 year Management Plan that ensures sustainability and responsible stewardship of the environment, water, wildlife and timber resources. All operations are regularly and independently audited according to ISO 14000 environmental standards and certified under the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) forest certification.
