Celebrating and Protecting Our Environment
Our communities have some of the most breathtaking landscapes and wildlife. We want to ensure future generations continue to enjoy and learn from them by contributing to environmental programs that educate, study, protect and revitalize.
Musquash Estuary Protection Award
A large, sheltered harbour and a river fringed by nearly extinct lush salt marshes, the Musquash Estuary is an oasis of wild and pristine beauty - a nature lover’s paradise. Efforts to protect the Musquash Estuary received a tremendous boost when JDI donated 403 acres of ecologically significant land to the Nature Conservancy of Canada. It is one of the keystone properties in Musquash and a critical part of this vital ecosystem.
“Of particular importance here are the salt marshes. There aren’t many left – 85% of the salt marshes originally found in the Bay of Fundy have been lost to development, so acquiring this one and being able to ensure it will remain in its natural state is extremely important ecologically.”

British Airways Tourism Award
The Irving Eco-Centre “La Dune de Bouctouche was recognized by the British Airways “Tourism for Tomorrow” Awards program - a first in Atlantic Canada. A shelter for many unique plants and wildlife, the Irving Eco-Centre “La Dune de Bouctouche” is dedicated to fostering a greater understanding of the environment and unique ecosystems. The Eco-Centre offers comprehensive educational facilities with interactive learning displays, encouraging participants to protect the dunes fragile environment. Over 5000 students each year receive "hands-on" lessons regarding the dune’s ecology. These learning programs are fully funded by the company.
