Community Matters

Our communities make up our homes, our livelihood, our friends. Making them great is one of J.D. Irving Limited’s (JDI) most cherished goals. We succeed together.

Big Heart Award

JDI was honoured to receive the Saint John Board of Trade’s, Big Heart Award. This award recognizes those who are working to make the community a better place to live, through their support of charitable or other community causes.

Boys & Girls Keystone Award

The Silver Keystone Award bears the inscription “For Outstanding Service to Youth”.

JDI and our employee volunteers donated a new kitchen to the Boys and Girls Club of Saint John. This greatly increased their ability to serve the needs of children in the community. The kitchen renovation saw the replacement of 40-year-old kitchen equipment plus an investment in new air conditioning, ventilation, a walk-in fridge and a walk-in freezer. The year before the renovations, the Club served 12,591 meals at lunch. The year after the renovations, the Club served 22,296 meals - a 43% increase in meals for local children!

2006 Maritime Philanthropy Award

The Maritime Philanthropy Awards recognizes outstanding achievements by philanthropists, volunteers and fundraisers in the region. The annual award honours those who best exemplify commitment and dedication towards helping society. JDI was the recipient of the Outstanding Corporate Philanthropist Award for its Pals for Prince Charles School Partnership.

Sport New Brunswick

Sport New Brunswick celebrates the best in New Brunswick’s sporting community.  JDI was honoured with the Corporate Award for its support of Basketball New Brunswick which engages over 3500 athletes of all ages - from Mini players under 12 years of age to Grand Masters that are over 45 years old.

Phoenix Award

The Society of American Travel Writers recognized the Irving Eco Centre – La Dune de Bouctouche for “Outstanding Accomplishment in Conservation and Preservation”.

"Because tourism leaves permanent 'footprints,' some harmful to the environment, some destroying the reasons for traveling, the Society of American Travel Writers in 1969 created an award to recognize conservation and preservation efforts of individuals and organizations."

Len Barnes, The Society of American Travel Writers, President
