The 105th annual Empty Stocking Fund raised $173,853. The Telegraph-Journal’s community fundraiser is one of the oldest newspaper-sponsored Christmas appeals in Canada. The funds are expected to brighten Christmas for over 2,300 children this year

This year the Irving Nature Park celebrated 25 years, but it wasn't the only milestone achieved in 2017! Staff at the Irving Nature Park would like to thank visitors for another great year. 2017 saw nearly 271,000 visitors at the park, the largest number since opening the gates in 1992.

 

Maine Northern Railway Passenger Train Rides Help Raise Funds for Local Community

The Fort Kent Lions Club raised $11,000 after a day of passenger train rides earlier this year. All proceeds will benefit the Fort Kent, St. Francis, Frenchville and Eagle Lake communities in the area. Maine Northern Railway provided the engines and passenger cars for the ride and crews volunteered their time to support the local community.

Veteran Block Planner, Jonathan Carson, has put his enviro-training into action and has identified several Great Blue Heron nests. The first was a single nest he found in the summer of 2016 while working in a jack pine stand in the Deersdale area.
