NEW ANNAN, PEI – Cavendish Farms has reported the detection of sewing needles in potatoes harvested in 2014. The needles were detected during the course of normal production of French fries at our New Annan Plant #1 on Prince Edward Island on December 27 and 28, 2014.

Irving Shipbuilding’s donation of $500,000 to the IWK Healthcare Foundation has helped refurbish the Berman Zebrafish Lab in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The newly enhanced lab is actively researching various treatments for cancer and blood disorders in children.

The annual Cavendish Farms Grower Banquet honouring the top potato growers was held recently in Charlottetown, PEI. The Top Grower for the 2013-2014 crop was the Schurman family of Dunk River Farms in Summerside, PEI.


Progress at Grand Lake Timber Sawmill Expansion

Since the ground breaking earlier this fall, 227 truckloads of concrete have been delivered to the Grand Lake Timber Expansion Project in Chipman, NB.  So far, 1,645 cubic metres of concrete have been poured by Econocrete of Fredericton as the foundations for the new production line take shape. The $23 million project includes a new mill infeed, a new debarker, stud line, and trimmer, as well as new stackers for the lumber.
