The scholarships are funded from a $1 million gift made in 2007 by J.D. Irving, Limited to UNB that will allow the most talented students to apply themselves more fully to their course work and to better prepare for their future careers.
“We are committed to growing the potential of New Brunswick’s young people and to keeping them home with rewarding careers. UNB has been a partner in this effort for decades and we are proud to have over 600 UNB grads on our team today,” said Colleen Baxter, Vice President of Human Resources at J.D. Irving, Limited. “This scholarship program is a win-win-win - for the student, the University, and our company in developing the next generation of New Brunswick’s leaders.”
The awards will be presented to students based on academic achievement, self-motivation, commitment to the community, and extracurricular activities, as well as financial need. Those who receive the award may also be offered employment opportunities with J.D. Irving, Limited throughout their degree program and/or upon graduation.
“J.D. Irving, Limited is a critical partner for us,” said UNB President and Vice-Chancellor Eddy Campbell. “Both JDI and UNB are committed to the development and prosperity of New Brunswick and we are most thankful for this generous support for our students.”
