Father and Daughter Riding to Fight Kids’ Cancer in the Great Cycle Challenge Canada

July 14, 2021

For the fourth year Guillaume Larocque, Senior Project Manager with J.D. Irving’s Engineering team in Moncton, New Brunswick takes on the Great Cycle Challenge Canada fundraiser with his daughter Ariane. Participants set a personal riding goal and pedal throughout August to help fight kids’ cancer.

“My daughter was just the right age when we started participating,” said Guillaume. “She was old enough to understand the importance of the cause and realize that some kids are not as lucky as she is health wise.”

The Great Cycle Challenge Canada started in 2016 and has raised $21,612,147 for research to develop treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

“I am happy I’m making a difference for children with cancer,” said Ariane Larocque. “I also love seeing the beautiful trails and spending time with my dad.”

In January, J.D. Irving, Limited partnered with the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) to launch the first-ever Atlantic Canada Excellence in Cancer Research Fund. J.D. Irving donated $2.5 million and hopes the gift will motivate other Canadians to give generously and be part of this change-making initiative that will improve lives.

The J.D. Irving, Limited – Excellence in Cancer Research Fund will help build, strengthen, and expand research potential and capacity so that scientists can continue their critical research in Atlantic Canada and contribute to the larger national cancer research landscape.
