Al Walker awarded King Charles III Coronation Medal
Al Walker, J.D. Irving, Limited Vice President of Tax and Internal Audit, has received a King Charles III Coronation Medal for his volunteer work.
Awarded by Lt.-Gov. Brenda Murphy at a ceremony held at Government House on Oct. 4, Walker and 22 other recipients were recognized for the service they provide to their communities as “unsung heroes” who “work behind the scenes with no expectation of recognition.”
Walker’s contributions to New Brunswick and the greater Saint John community go back more than a decade. He’s currently the board chair of both Kings Landing and Envision Saint John, a past board chair of the regional solid waste commission and has worked alongside other community members to bring a new recreation facility to the town of Hampton, just to name a few.
Professionally, Walker has served with CPA New Brunswick and CPA Canada. He founded JDI’s CPA training program, the first of its kind in Canada, which combines mentorship and industry experience for employees undertaking the process of becoming a Chartered Professional Accountant.
“You see a need, you always want to give back,” Walker said.
Walker received his nomination for the King Charles III Coronation Medal from Kings Landing, a 19th century historic village located outside Fredericton, NB, for his “contributions to the social sciences and humanities.” Walker has served on the historic site’s board for the last 15 years, nine of which as board chair.
In her address to the medalists, Murphy commended the group she referred to as “volunteers, organizers, leaders and role models.”
“We need more people like you who are passionate about supporting their communities and who inspire others to get involved in their own way.”
The King Charles III Coronation Medal is being awarded to 30,000 Canadians.
