Building a safety-first culture at a staffing company

Meet Sophia Wry, Manager, Health and Safety at Protrans Personnel Services.

In a staffing company like Protrans, safety doesn't end at the door – employees work at customer sites, by their rules and schedules. Sophia translates the organization’s focus on safety into a standard that keeps employees safe no matter where they are placed, while maintaining customer confidence that every Protrans hire is trained to work safely.

Every new placement at Protrans starts with a work site review, and every new hire completes pre-placement, onboarding and safety training before their first shift. Protrans works with customers to make sure employees have the information and support they need to start safely.

Employees also need to feel comfortable making safe choices at a customer's site.

"If something feels off, they know they can stop or adjust without pressure, real or perceived," says Sophia.

Every safety policy at Protrans empowers employees with the confidence to trust what they see.

For Sophia, this work is personal. She's worked in health and safety for more than 10 years and never leaves Protrans employees' safety to chance.

"I've seen the impact safety events can have on employees and their families," she says.

Sophia joined Protrans in January. She supports 1,100 employees.
