Celebrating Giving Tuesday: 2022 Highlights

Giving back to the communities where we live and work has been a strong tradition and one of our core values for more than 140 years. We are rooted in community and committed to seeing our hometowns grow. This year, we are celebrating Giving Tuesday by looking back at some of our 2022 highlights:

2022 Memorial Cup Donation

The summer events were back in Saint John and we were thrilled to sponsor the 2022 Memorial Cup and give a $10,000 donation to P.R.O Kids!

We are proud to have been a part of a week packed full of hockey, music, and fan fun – including the JDI Ball Hockey Tournament in Saint John. The new, modern ball hockey surfacehelped make hockey more accessible to everyone. #OneForAll

JDI Westside Community Dog Park

We are excited to have opened the JDI Westside Community Dog Park

This is the first dog park on the Westside of Saint John, providing a safe, friendly place for pups to run, sniff and play. The project would not have been possible without the help and support of the Westside community and our sponsors: Irving Pulp & Paper, Gulf Operators, and NB Southern Railways.

30th Annual Aroostook County Can-am Donation

In celebration of the 30th Annual Can-Am Crown Sled Dog Races, and for all the northern Maine community has done to host the activity for three decades, Irving Woodlands, LLC donated an additional $50,000 USD to Aroostook County Action Program ($25,000), Fish River Rural Health Food Pantry ($10,000), and Ashland Food Pantry ($15,000) on behalf of the hundreds of volunteers who commit themselves to hosting the popular event year after year.

Saint John’s Bowl for Kids Sake

This year’s event had a special twist. Rather than our traditional bowling fundraiser, 44 JDI teams were on the field this summer to show support for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Saint John's Bowl For Kids Sake in a bocce ball tournament. Our JDI employee-led teams spent the spring fundraising to support all the amazing work BBBS does for the children in the Saint John community! This year we raised over $154,000.

Support for Ukraine

In support of the Ukrainian people as they deal with the tragedy unfolding in their country, our employees rallied together as J.D. Irving, Limited matched employees’ donations to the Canadian Red Cross’ “Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal”, donating over $110,000.

Donations were used for everything from delivering urgent assistance including food, fuel, medical supplies, to housing support, livelihood support, psychological support, and operating mobile health teams.
