Chase Clark - Hired Before Graduation

Chase Clark didn't have to think for long when one of his Central Maine Community College professors suggested he take a summer internship at the Dixfield Sawmill. From Dixfield, Maine himself and with a father who is a long-term employee at the mill, it made sense to spend the last summer of his education at home.

"I used to drive by the mill everyday as a kid knowing dad was working in there," says Chase about the mill.

After completing an internship with the sawmill, he impressed the leadership team. One week before his final class, he was offered a full-time position as an Electrician. He had the last class of his education on the same day as he started full-time as a Dixfield Sawmill employee. With a graduation ceremony scheduled for later in the year, this Electrical and Mechanical Technology grad has already started his career.

"The team here is amazing. I worked days as a student, so I had the opportunity to rotate through all the shifts. Every single person I worked with taught me something new," said Chase.

Our sites take interns and co-op students throughout the year, providing students with the opportunity to do on the job learning. Star students who show an interest in continuing their career with our operations may be offered full-time jobs before they return to school, leading to them being hired before graduation.
