Eric Landry: 40 years in the marine industry
Eric Landry, a Second Engineer with Atlantic Towing, is marking 40 years in the marine industry, a career that began in 1986 when he first joined the Kent Line team, helping in the galley and kitchen.
From his first days on board, Eric looked for opportunities to learn beyond his role. He spent time on deck and in the engine room, building the knowledge that would shape his career. After earning his sea time, he advanced to oiler, later challenging his fourth-class engineering exam and passed.
Shortly after, in 1996, Eric was transferred to Atlantic Towing where he obtained his engineering certification and has since moved into the role of Second Engineer.
Reflecting on his experience, Eric credits curiosity and persistence as key to his growth.
“If the person next to you did it, then you can too,” he said.
Over four decades, the industry has evolved, but Eric’s approach has remained consistent, with a focus on learning, problem solving and supporting others entering the field.
“I still enjoy the challenges. When that stops, that’s when I’ll retire,” he said.
Eric says his proudest accomplishment is his family, alongside a career that allowed him to grow and contribute across the industry.
Thank you, Eric, for 40 years of fueling ambition.
