Excelling in Engineering

Today and every day we recognize and celebrate the work and achievements of female engineers across our organization. We are proud to have many talented women who are excelling in the world of engineering working across our diverse operations.

Pulp & Paper

Swati Anand is a graduate of the Bachelor of Electrical Engineering program at Dalhousie University and has been working with the Irving Forest Services team as an Associate Project Manager for over three years. Since graduating from university she has gone on to excel in the engineering field by receiving both her Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng.) and her Project Management Professional (PMP) designation.

Now Swati works on our major capital investments and is currently working on building a new environmental treatment facility at Irving Pulp & Paper.

"My advice for young girls looking to go into engineering would be to not be afraid of the unknown even if what is in front of you is intimidating, just go for it. You can do it!"

Sawmills

Jordyn MacDonald started as an engineering student with the Sussex Sawmill in May of this year. She had just wrapped up her first year at the University of New Brunswick's Saint John campus when she joined the team. This summer she'll be helping with the optimization of equipment inside the mill and working closely with the maintenance team.

She grew up without any significant engineering influence, but is excited to promote the industry today and in the future.

"Engineering is a very male-dominated industry, so I'm really exited to break that stigma! And since I don't know exactly what I want to do long-term and there are so many things you can do with an engineering background, I know it will open a lot of doors for me," says Jordyn of her future career.

The Sawmill Division is proud to offer student positions in various disciplines across our operations. If you're looking for your next co-op position, apply today at careers.jdirving.com or reach out to the Sawmill HR team directly at sawmills@jdirving.com.

Shipbuilding
