From Colombia to Canada: Making it home

Amir has been a key member of J.D. Irving, Limited’s Transportation & Logistics division since joining the company as a Business Improvement Analyst in August 2022. His career move has helped him to set down roots in the Saint John, NB.

Originally from Colombia, Amir and his wife packed their belongings and made the big move to New Brunswick in 2021. A trip to Canada in 2017 solidified their desire to immigrate after admiring the country’s diversity, safety, and natural beauty.

Upon arriving in Saint John, Amir completed his postgraduate studies and then took a role with the Transportation and Logistics division’s Business Improvement team, where he focused on Atlantic Towing and NBM Railways projects.

Now Amir and his wife are establishing themselves in the community, thanks to friends that have become like family. They’ve since had a chance to explore more of the country and are adjusting to life in Canada while enjoying the quality of life it has to offer.

And just recently, the couple hit a new milestone. Over the holidays Amir and his wife traveled back to Colombia for a surprise visit to see family. On the day they returned to Saint John, they received confirmation of their Permanent Residency status, marking another step in their journey of making their new community their home.

Amir is now preparing to take his next step and will be moving over to trucking later this month.
