GIVING TUESDAY: J.D. IRVING, LIMITED REFLECTS ON INVESTMENT IN COMMUNITY

JDI understands the importance of giving back through charitable donations, sponsorships and the many efforts of dedicated employee volunteers.

This year, on Giving Tuesday, J.D. Irving, Limited reflects on a year of investment in community:

 

HELPING REDEVELOP THE IWK EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

This Fall, a donation was gifted towards the redevelopment of the IWK Emergency Department.

The gift supports enhancements to the current IWK Emergency Department, improving infrastructure and overall experience for patients and families across the Maritimes and beyond. Designed with a focus on the patient journey, the new state-of-the-art department will have the best medical technologies available, complementing the world-class care provided by the IWK’s emergency team.

J.D. IRVING, LIMITED, THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW BRUNSWICK SAINT JOHN AND NEW BRUNSWICK COMMUNITY COLLEGE ANNOUNCED DIGITAL TALENT PIPELINE INITIATIVE FOR NEW BRUNSWICK

The McKenna Institute, New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) and the University of New Brunswick Saint John joined to develop a new digital pathways program for industry-related careers, made possible through a donation from J.D. Irving, Limited.

Focused on developing a talent pipeline to improve digital technology competitiveness for organizations in New Brunswick, the pathways program will invest in student scholarships and bursaries at both NBCC and UNB Saint John, for multiple programs related to digital technology.

The fund plans to also be used to improve existing curriculum surrounding digital technology at both institutions; to explore opportunities for joint applied research; and to align initiatives with sectors while ensuring skills security through the creation of flexible, transferable pathways for learners.

 

DOMINION PARK COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION CUT RIBBON ON PARK REVITALIZATION

Dominion Park Community Association cut the ribbon this summer on phase one of the revitalization of west Saint John’s Dominion Park. J.D. Irving, Limited is proud to have played a role in the effort, enabling the advancement of the project with a donation.  
 “We are happy to support our friends and neighbours on the West side by helping revitalize this important local asset,” said Jim Irving, co-CEO of J.D. Irving, Limited. “Like we’ve done with the Irving Nature Park and Children’s Forest, we want to keep working to enhance outdoor recreation options here in Saint John, where we live and work.”

Phase one of the project included an improved, permanent amenities building with accessible bathrooms, an eatery for rent, rest facilities for staff and lifeguards. This replaced temporary facilities that have been used since flooding destroyed much of the park’s infrastructure in 2018.

 

CELEBRATION OF CAN-AM SLED DOG RACES AND MAINE COMMUNITIES

Irving Woodlands, LLC returned as the title sponsor for the Can-Am Crown International Sled Dog 250-mile race in Fort Kent this year. The company has sponsored the event’s 250-mile race and awarded the top 12 finishers since 2005.

In recognition of the community effort that has gone in to hosting the Can-Am Crown Sled Dog Races for 30 years, Irving Woodlands, LLC donated to three key community causes in Northern Maine: Aroostook County Action Program,  Fish River Rural Health Food Pantry and Ashland Food Pantry.

 

NBCC’S GOING BEYOND CAMPAIGN RAISED $21.8 MILLION TO TRANSFORM NEW BRUNSWICK’S WORKFORCE

NBCC learners are benefiting from improved connectivity, modernized learning environments, reduced barriers to post-secondary education and much more thanks to the $21.8 million donated to the Going Beyond campaign.

Going Beyond invited individuals and organizations to help transform New Brunswick’s workforce as the province faces a critical moment. The campaign set out to accelerate skills development, innovate educational delivery and reach unprecedented numbers of New Brunswickers.

J.D. Irving, Limited co-CEO, Jim Irving’s commitment, along with J.D. Irving, Limited’s donation, inspired early fundraising success, leading to the funds exceeding the $16 million goal NBCC set when the campaign launched in June 2022.
