How a student competition led to a career with JDI Logistics
From placing in a supply chain competition to landing a full-time logistics job, Sakshit Dabla’s journey shows it pays to stand out.
Saki currently works as a Pricing Analyst for JDI Logistics. A year ago, he was a student at the University of New Brunswick Fredericton competing in the school’s annual Supply Chain Case Competition.
Each year, JDI Logistics partners with the University of New Brunswick Fredericton on the competition, bringing a real-world business challenge to the classroom. The event gives students hands-on experience tackling complex supply chain problems while connecting directly with industry professionals. JDI Logistics team members support the initiative by mentoring students and serving as judges, ultimately recognizing the strongest solutions.
Last year, one of those students was Saki. His team’s solution stood out, earning second place in the competition. Just a few weeks later, that experience led to an unexpected opportunity. Upon graduation, Saki was offered a full-time position with JDI Logistics.
Today, Saki supports pricing strategies, analyzes market trends and contributes to real-world logistics solutions.
“I would have never imagined the competition helping me get full-time employment,” Saki said. “It completely changed my career path and showed me the power of networking.”
In April 2026, Saki returned to the University of New Brunswick Fredericton, not as a competitor, but as a judge. He joined JDI Logistics colleagues Garrett Hampton, Ross Britton and Melissa Beckwith to evaluate this year’s student presentations, offering feedback and insight from both an industry and alumni perspective.
The moment marked a full circle experience for Saki, from student competitor to JDI Logistics employee to competition judge. It also highlighted the value of JDI Logistics’ ongoing involvement with post-secondary institutions and the impact those connections can have on students’ futures.
Reflecting on his journey, Saki encourages students to take advantage of opportunities beyond the classroom.
“Get involved, say yes and take the chance,” he said. “You never know what will come of it.”
