Irving Equipment awarded the Canadian Lift of the Year in the Under 20 Tonnes

Irving Equipment has been awarded the Canadian Lift of the Year in the Under 20 Tonnes category, presented by the Canadian Crane Rental Association (CCRA) at its annual conference in Edmonton, Alberta.

The CCRA’s Canadian Lift of the Year Awards celebrate innovation and technical excellence in the crane industry. The Under 20 Tonnes category highlights outstanding lifts involving smaller loads often requiring intricate planning, precise execution and the ability to overcome complex logistical or environmental challenges. Projects must be completed in Canada and involve cranes, though other lifting equipment such as jacks or gantries may also be used. Submissions are evaluated across four key criteria:

• Methods used
• Planning and control
• Site and lifting conditions
• Risk management

Julien Raby, Manager of Engineering, presented the winning project, a tower stabilization lift in rural New Brunswick. The tower had suffered a foundation failure, threatening a vital transmission corridor. Spring thaw conditions made access to the tower site difficult, requiring the construction of temporary roads and crane pads.

The team developed a detailed lift and rigging plans using scale models and collaborated closely with regulatory authorities to address unique safety concerns. The 5.1 tonne tower was partially disassembled and stabilized while remaining suspended. Once new foundations were installed, the structure was realigned, reconnected, and the transmission lines were safely reinstalled.

This project is a testament to Irving Equipment’s expertise in remote logistics, safety planning, and precision lifting and a proud example of the innovation and excellence celebrated by the CCRA.
