Irving Shipbuilding Marine Trades Initiative Accepting Applications for Fully Funded Welding Training at Nova Scotia Community College
JANUARY 26, 2026, HALIFAX, NS – Irving Shipbuilding Inc. (ISI) and Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) are accepting applications for the next cohort of the Irving Shipbuilding Marine Trades Initiative. The $3.306M investment created 60 fully funded trade spots in 2025 and will add 20 new welding trade spots at NSCC in September 2026.
The Irving Shipbuilding Marine Trades Initiative offers free tuition for specialized training in welding, metal fabrication, and pipe trades, equipping students with the essential skills required in today's evolving marine sector. This initiative is an investment in the future of Canada’s marine industry, removing barriers and providing training opportunities for new skilled tradespeople.
Beginning in September 2026, ISI will cover all aspects of the two-year welding diploma program for 20 students. Participants will apply through ISI and be enrolled directly by NSCC as full-time students.
