J.D. Irving, Limited announces green energy project

Project expected to help decarbonize New Brunswick’s grid

SAINT JOHN - J.D. Irving, Limited has applied to construct a new wind farm near Juniper, New Brunswick. The project is the subject of an Environmental Impact Assessment recently submitted to the Government of New Brunswick’s Department of Environment and Local Government.

Brighton Mountain Wind will be constructed in multiple phases. The first phase will have an installed capacity of 200 megawatts with 34 wind turbines and an investment of approximately $550 million.

Brighton Mountain Wind will be built on rural, heavily forested J.D. Irving, Limited timberlands south of Juniper, New Brunswick. The foundational work is expected to begin in 2025, pending regulatory approval, and will be complete in 2027. The planned second phase will add another 150 megawatts, with the timing to be determined.  

Full project construction is expected to create more than 200 construction jobs.
