J.D. Irving, Limited is pleased to support Girls STEM Up: BREAKTHROUGH

Fredericton, NB - J.D. Irving, Limited is pleased to support this year’s Girls STEM Up: BREAKTHROUGH Conference as they return to an in-person event welcoming over 200 student delegates across Atlantic Canada. Girls STEM UP is dedicated to increasing awareness and engagement of young women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics careers.

“We’ve been a proud partner of Girls STEM UP from the beginning and are pleased to be a part of the 5th annual conference,” says Linda Speedy, Vice President of Human Resources for J.D. Irving, Limited. “We are looking to grow opportunities for talented women in STEM areas across our operations and inspiring events like this helps break through barriers for young women in New Brunswick. A diversity of ideas, genders and cultures is what makes our team better.”

This ongoing partnership hopes to continue to drive conversations about the opportunities and barriers facing women of all ages from pursuing careers or further education in STEM.

"Girls STEM Up is thrilled to have the support and sponsorship of JDI once again this year,” says Kate Tucker, Co-chair of Girls STEM Up Committee. “Their commitment to our event, and our mission, is incredibly appreciated by both our planning team and all women in STEM.”

Girls STEM Up was inspired by a group of young, female students who found a knowledge gap among their fellow students relating to opportunities for women in STEM. The organizing committee is comprised of 14 post-secondary students studying at the University of New Brunswick across multiple degree programs. This conference will bring new ideas to the forefront, foster networking opportunities and present an encouraging forum for delegates and speakers to share their experiences as women in STEM.

Girls STEM Up is targeted at young women enrolled in high school or post-secondary education, as well as Allies (students who do not identify as women but support stronger female representation). Over 200 delegates from high schools and undergraduate university programs across Atlantic Canada are expected to attend the full-day conference in-person at the Fredericton Convention Centre on March 18th, 2023.
