J.D. Irving, Limited supports young women in STEM

Fredericton, NB -  J.D. Irving, Limited is proud to announce their support for the Girls STEM Up conference.

The Girls STEM Up conference is focused on “Bridging Gaps” and inspiring women to pursue careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). The event is set to gather more than 200 student delegates from the University of New Brunswick.

The company has been a supporter of this conference since it first began and is proud to continue the partnership for the sixth annual event. By partnering with Girls STEM Up, J.D. Irving, Limited aims to stimulate conversations about the opportunities and challenges facing women in STEM, with a focus on empowering the next generation of female leaders in these fields.

“As a woman in STEM, I am deeply aware of the transformative power of representation and inclusion in these fields,” says Nicole Ross, an Environmental Engineer with Irving Forest Services who will be in attendance. “By attending events like the Girls STEM Up conference, I hope support the younger generation in embracing their curiosity, breaking barriers and pursuing their passions in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics."

Girls STEM Up originated from a collective group of young women who identified a gap in knowledge among their peers regarding opportunities for females in STEM fields. The organizing committee consists of 14 post-secondary students from various degree-programs at the University of New Brunswick. This event aims to showcase innovative ideas, facilitate networking and provide a supportive platform for delegates and speakers to exchange their experiences as women in STEM.

Girls STEM Up is targeted at young women enrolled in high school or post-secondary education, as well as Allies (students who do not identify as women but support stronger female representation). The conference anticipates over 200 delegates from educational institutions from across Atlantic Canada to convene for the full-day conference at the Delta Fredericton on February 24th, 2024.
