John Spitzer’s technology-driven co-op experience with Irving Tissue

John Spitzer, a fourth-year Mechanical Engineering student at Clarkson University, knew he wanted a co-op placement with a company that values its people and operates at a high standard. That’s why Irving Tissue in Fort Edward, New York was the perfect choice.

“I chose Irving Tissue for my co-op term because of the great things I heard from people who’ve worked with the company,” John said. “This positive feedback made me confident that it would be a great place to learn and grow.”

John began his placement as a logistics co-op student in June, where he’s been responsible for creating and maintaining data reports using leading tools that turn data into easy-to-understand visual reports.

He’s also supported other projects, including the development of a logistics scorecard for operations, and a paper forecasting dashboard designed to improve inventory and consumption planning.

During his time at Irving Tissue, John discovered that logistics reporting requires far more creativity and problem solving than he expected. Working with such advanced technology has been a surprising and rewarding part of his experience.

“Irving Tissue is advanced when it comes to technology,” he said. “There have been numerous upgrades on the production floor, and the tools I’ve worked with are modern and powerful. It’s clear the company invests in technology to stay current.”

“My time at Irving Tissue allowed me to build skills I didn’t expect to develop and helped me become more confident working with peers. I’ve gained a better understanding of how different parts of a business work together and I’ll carry everything I learned into future roles.”
