Keegan Gilbert: Hired Before Grad

After three summers of hands-on experience with J.D. Irving, Limited, Keegan Gilbert received a full-time contract before completing his degree. 

Keegan started with JDI in May 2022 as an Accounting Student for Irving Pulp and Paper. As a Business Administration student at the University of New Brunswick Fredericton, Keegan returned the following two summers to work as a Financial Planning and Analysis student with RST/Sunbury. During his last student term, Keegan received a full-time offer before returning to UNB for the fall semester. He now works as a Fleet Manager, supporting chemical divisions at RST. 

During his summer terms, Keegan developed skills in data analysis, logistics and supply chain management — all of which have been crucial in transitioning into his full-time role. "Each of my summer experiences have played pivotal roles in my career growth, making the transition to a full-time role seamless and effective." As a Fleet Manager, Keegan focusses on dispatching, customer support relations, equipment handling and ensuring RST operations run safely and efficiently. 

During his student roles, Keegan had the opportunity to network with fellow students and professionals and explore the diverse businesses within JDI. 

"For students considering JDI, my advice is to embrace every opportunity the program offers," says Keegan. "Be open to new experiences and challenges, as they will contribute to your career development and make your transition into a full-time role much smoother."
