Kent Homes Celebrates 65 Years in Operation

Kent Homes, a business within the J.D. Irving, Limited Construction and Equipment Division, is celebrating 65 years in business. Since 1958, the company has grown into one of the leading modular and mini home manufacturers and providers of mobile and temporary rental buildings, trailers and industrial shelters in Atlantic Canada.

How It Started

The Kent Homes story began in the mid-1950s as a workforce housing solution for sawmill employees. To improve living conditions, boost morale and increase productivity, the company prefabricated lodgings and transported them on-site.

Then, the concept transformed. In 1958, it evolved into an entire business model singularly focused on one cornerstone belief: that homeowners deserved a better way to build. Kent Homes began manufacturing units at its production plant in Bouctouche, which ensured strict quality-control measures and kept production running smoothly, without being rushed or impacted by poor weather -- like traditional outdoor construction.

How It's Going

Today, Kent Homes operates a state-of-the-art, climate-controlled production plant with a team of 200+ people, including skilled tradespeople, engineers, designers, sales and marketing staff, administrators and more. It has three direct sales centers in Bouctouche and Fredericton in New Brunswick and a new centre in Borden, Prince Edward Island, and a network of retailers throughout the Maritimes and Ontario.

As Kent Homes has grown, it has ventured into medium- and large-scale commercial projects, including workforce housing, mobile classrooms, daycare complexes and apartment buildings.

In November 2022, Kent Homes completed the Fitzroy apartment complex, a four-storey, 28-unit apartment building in Charlottetown in partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) and 720 Solutions

“Working on the Fitzroy Project for CMHA was an incredible opportunity for our team. We are proud to have worked on a project that will have benefits for the community," said Jeremy Maxwell, General Manager of Kent Homes.

Sixty-five years later, Kent Homes' passion for uncompromising quality rings as true now as ever. It remains the foundation of every unit built in the Bouctouche production plant.
