Meet Jim Kennedy, our new General Manager at Gulf Operators
Jim Kennedy has recently joined Gulf Operators as its new General Manager, embracing the opportunity to return home to the Maritimes to both grow his career and be closer to family.
Originally from Guysborough, N.S., Jim earned a Diploma in Engineering from St. Francis University and a Bachelor of Mining Engineering from the Technical University of Nova Scotia (now known as Dalhousie University). In the last 25 years, his career took him away from home for various roles in the mining and construction industries, most recently as a General Manager with a large construction company in Canada and the United States.
These roles exposed Jim to contract mining operations, heavy civil construction, pipelines and industrial construction, making his new position at Gulf Operators a perfect fit.
“It’s a great mix and never boring,” Jim said, reflecting on his experience at the company so far. “Every day is different, and every project we build is different. There are new opportunities and challenges, but most of all, it is exciting to meet new people and see our Gulf Operators employees develop and grow their careers.”
Jim understands the importance of a healthy work-life balance. Outside of work, Jim loves spending time with his wife and four sons, often camping or fishing. He also enjoys hunting, golfing, traveling to new places and is an avid fan of hockey and baseball.
When offering advice to those considering joining the Gulf Operators team, Jim had this to say:
“Just do it. It can feel overwhelming making the decision to join a new company, but the experience is exhilarating, and the opportunities to learn and develop in a new role and company are huge.”
