Multiculturalism Day: Owner-Operators in Québec City
After moving to New Brunswick from Ukraine in 2021 and 2023 respectively, Yurii and Vitalii began their journeys at RST-Sunbury as Professional Truck Drivers. This year, they both took their next steps, becoming Owner-Operators with RST and relocating to Québec City.
“In the next few months, I will be eligible to apply for a citizenship and I am looking forward to it,” says Vitalii. “I can’t wait to finally become a Canadian and proudly call this country ‘my forever home.’”
In recognition of Multiculturalism Day, we’re celebrating the diverse experiences and backgrounds that enrich our businesses. Employees like Yurii and Vitalii help shape our vibrant and inclusive community at J.D. Irving, Limited.
For Yurii, trucking runs in the family – both his father and grandfather worked as truck drivers back in Ukraine. “I loved riding along with them from a young age,” he says, carrying that passion into his own career. “I’m now continuing to enjoy my work in the trucking industry. I’ve gained so much experience across Europe and Canada and now my family and I are entering the next stage of our lives as I become an Owner-Operator in Québec.”
The move to Québec City has been wonderful for Yurii and Vitalii so far. “The best thing about Québec City is its affordability and the balance between quality of life and the price that you pay for that. The second reason is the European charm,” says Vitalii.
“Becoming an Owner Operator for me is just another step forward in my career path that will allow me to learn something new and continue growing and developing,” he says. “I can’t allow myself to stop in self-development.”
