PumpsPlus marks 5 years with J. D. Irving, Limited
PumpsPlus began in Saint John, N.B. in 2000 as a joint venture between Maynard Reece Engineering and Industrial Rubber. It has grown from a three person start up into Atlantic Canada's number one supplier of industrial pumps and related products serving customers across multiple industries such as mining, oil and gas, marine and municipal sectors.
In the early days, the team relied on printed pump curves, pens, pencils and fax machines. Former employee Ed McCleave, Senior Application Engineer and the company’s first Application Engineer, says, “Communication was much slower.” Due to their rapid growth, they expanded and opened offices in Labrador City, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia.
Former employee Roger Arseneau remembers solely relying on books for answers, “Back then there was hardly any Internet.” Bill Pearce, current Sales Representative with PumpsPlus, remembers many long days spent travelling to customers. Cory White, current Technical Sales Manager who joined in 2009, thinks back, “I used a BlackBerry smart phone and a fax machine.”
However, despite the many changes, the culture remains strong. Bill says, “The wonderful way employees are treated has stayed the same.”
Today, PumpsPlus has a dedicated team of 14 employees who proudly support customers across New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Quebec, Ontario and Western Canada. With specialized strength in pumps, custom packages, valves, rotating equipment and repair services, the team delivers focused expertise and reliable support across every region they touch. They continue to grow sales across the country and achieved another record year in 2025!
From a small team using fax machines and handwritten notes to a multi provincial leader using modern digital tools, PumpsPlus has grown significantly, with the last five years showing remarkable progress!
