Proudly Supporting the 9th Annual APEGNB (Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists) Saint John Soap Box Derby

J.D. Irving Limited (JDI) is proud to support the 9th annual Saint John Soap Box Derby on June 3rd. JDI companies are pleased to be sponsoring seven amazing racers/Derby Cars from six local schools. There are 34 cars taking place in total this year.

“The Soapbox Derby brings together partners, sponsors, volunteers, schools and community groups. This day of racing creates a great team environment, gives back to the community and so much more,” says Deborah Lawton, a representative from Lily Lake Pavilion.

The races will begin on Saturday, June 3rd at 10am on Cranston Avenue in Saint John.

The Soap Box Derby is a major fundraiser for the PALS in the Park Program. The program will bring over 2,000 students from 25 schools to participate in co-curricular recreational and educational activities in Rockwood Park. Since 2011, the PALS in the Park Program has provided enrichment programming and transportation for over 20,000 students.

About PALS

The PALS (Partners Assisting Local Schools) Program helps address the identified needs of students from priority neighbourhoods. Initiated in Saint John by Mr. James K. Irving and the local school district, now ASDS (Anglophone School District – South) , PALS has grown to over 30 schools in NB and NS with close to 200 business and community partners and hundreds of volunteers.

PALS and community partners and volunteers help impact children’s academic achievements, attendance, school spirit, motivation, social skills, sports activity and cultural awareness. Volunteer activities include mentoring, coaching, serving breakfast, offering career guidance, organizing after school clubs and helping behind the scenes.
