Student Spotlight: Emily Fisher

J.D. Irving, Limited's student program is designed to provide meaningful, real-world experience, and Emily Fisher’s journey reflects the strong impact of hands-on learning in supporting both professional and personal development.

Originally from Rothesay, N.B., Emily is a fourth-year Business student at Acadia University with interests in both marketing and human resources.

“I really enjoy marketing for its creative side, but I’m equally drawn to HR because I love working with people and improving how teams operate,” she said.

Now in her third summer with JDI, Emily has gained experience across multiple areas of the organization. She began as a Marketing Student with KENT Building Supplies, supporting large campaigns, and later worked in Corporate Human Resources, contributing to recruitment initiatives and data governance. These roles have enabled her to expand her skillset and gain exposure to different aspects of the business.

This summer, Emily is working with HR Shared Services as a Business Improvement Student. In this role, she is contributing to an enterprise-wide initiative focused on improving processes and enhancing employee experience.

“It’s been really rewarding to be part of a project with broad organizational impact and to see it through from beginning to end," Emily said.

Outside of her work terms, Emily is actively involved at Acadia University, where she serves as Vice President Internal of the Acadia Business Society and Co-Chair of the Business Banquet. Through her involvement, she’s built strong leadership, communication and organizational skills.

She is also a recipient of the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award, a prestigious international recognition that reflects her dedication, perseverance and well-rounded approach to growth both inside and outside the classroom.

Emily’s journey demonstrates the value of JDI’s student program in developing capable, well-rounded professionals.

“A work term at JDI pushes you beyond the classroom,” she said. “When I think about my first work term at JDI compared to now, I can really see how much I’ve grown. You gain practical experience while also building confidence, resilience and independence. I have had the opportunity to work with some great people while at JDI, and it’s the people that make the experience.”
