Sustainable forestry knowledge taught at Green ME Up Maine

More than 750 Girl Scouts members braved rainy weekend weather to attend this year’s annual Green ME Up event in Freeport, Maine.

J.D. Irving, Limited's Irving Woodlands, LLC and Irving Forest Products divisions were proud once again to participate in the event, which was held on April 20.

More than 450 Girl Scouts accompanied by close to 300 adults had the chance to peruse booths from various industry, agriculture and environment-related companies. Attendees learned from each company’s representatives about their business, participated in an activity and received a badge for their new knowledge.

At JDI’s booth, staff volunteers shared information about the importance of sustainable forest management and the company’s hands-on approach to managing the land on which they operate. Visitors also planted their own white spruce seed to take home in order to help positively impact the environment.

JDI has sponsored this annual event since 2018 and recognizes the importance of educating youth who are interested in their local environment. The company is dedicated to supporting stakeholders across New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Maine and New York with a commitment to sustainable forest management.
