The Co-Op Experience at J.D. Irving, Limited

Each year, J.D. Irving, Limited (JDI) welcomes more than 600 students into placements across its operations. These roles contribute meaningfully to company businesses while strengthening the talent pipeline with the next generation of professionals.

JDI’s co-op program is designed to bridge classroom learning with real-world applications, offering students hands-on experiences that reinforce academic outcomes and build practical skills. With opportunities available in every division, the program supports students from a wide range of disciplines.

During their work terms, students at JDI can expect multiple supports and development opportunities, including:

Co-Op Fee Reimbursement: Students enrolled in an active co-op program are eligible for reimbursement of school-applied co-op course fees, up to $1,000. This incentive aims to reduce financial barriers students may face during their work term.

Learning & Development Opportunities: Beyond their day-to-day roles, students can participate in targeted learning initiatives to help set a strong career foundation. Students may also take part in operational tours and cross-departmental presentations, offering exposure to the company’s diverse operations.

Networking Opportunities: With a broad range of operations, experience levels and career paths, JDI offers students opportunities to learn and build connections with professionals across divisions and leadership levels.

Hired Before Grad Offers: Investing in talented young people also means providing opportunities for them to grow a career at home after graduating. Students who make exceptional contributions and show leadership potential during their work term(s) at JDI may be offered full-time positions, providing the security of a full-time role post-graduation and allowing them to focus on completing their degree on a strong footing.

Partnerships with Atlantic Canadian post-secondary institutions are critical in filling these diverse roles. Students can stay in the know concerning job postings, career fairs and networking opportunities by following the @jdioncampus Instagram account.
