Irving Shipbuilding Inc. (ISI) operates one of the finest ship repair facilities on the East Coast of North America. 

The waterfront along the Shelburne Marine Industrial Park has been busy this season with several vessels in the dock yard for scheduled repairs. The Shelburne Ship Repair facility serves the needs of small and medium-sized vessels from its convenient location on the southeastern coast of Nova Scotia on the Atlantic Ocean. Community leaders say recent the investments in the local yard have breathed new life and energy into the region. “Shelburne County is a marine-based economy, and the investments to modernize and upgrade Shelburne Ship Repair have had a huge impact on the community,” said Warden Penny Smith, of the Municipality of the District of Shelburne. “Direct spin-offs from the ongoing investment include increased employment with good-paying jobs with increasing local spending in local retail and restaurants in our area. And it also encourages other marine- based business to locate here,” Smith said. Shelburne Ship Repair is a major driver of the local economy and provides high value employment.

"We currently have 55 workers at the yard. The majority of the team at Shelburne Ship Repair has been there since the early 80s and a few have been there since the late 70s,” said Alan Stewart, General Manager of Shelburne Ship Repair. “It is a well-established team, a community and a family of its own.” Looking to the future, Stewart says there’s a solid market for repair work and the skilled workers to do those jobs.
