Nicolas Deslongchamps receives the JDI Accounting Incentive Award, presented by Kent Legge, Vice President of JDI Finance.

Nick’s previous two co-op terms were with Brunswick News as an accounting co-op student. He currently works with the Woodlands and Sawmills divisions. 20 years old, Deslongchamps has lived in Fredericton all his life, graduating from École Sainte Anne.

“Working as a co-op student at JDI has been a great experience. I’ve had the chance to work with full-time professional accountants and work in a fast-paced environment. The accounting team here is very friendly with lots of energy, and they’re always there to help students throughout their term,” explains Nick.

“This year there are 30 co-op students working at JDI head office, allowing for a great opportunity to make friends and connections throughout the co-op term. You will have a chance to meet them through various activities, for example the Sussex Sawmill tour for co-op students, company-sponsored community events such as Bowl for Kids’ Sake, as well as various personal development and training sessions here at JDI.”

The recipient of the J.D. Irving, Limited Accounting Incentive Award receives a $3,000 award payable towards their education and an accounting work term position with JDI Finance in Saint John. The award is awarded annually to a third-year business student with a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 with plans to pursue an accounting designation.

“As always, we are proud to support the students here at home who are interested in pursuing careers in accounting, and are truly pleased to have Nicolas join our team of professionals at JDI Finance this summer.” said Kent Legge, Vice President – Finance, J.D. Irving, Limited. “Again this year,  we were extremely impressed with the level of talent vying for this award, which supports our belief that we harbour tremendous talent here in the Atlantic provinces. I am confident Nicolas will have a very meaningful term with us this summer, which will provide him exposure to the various JDI divisions. This experience will serve him very well as he embarks on his professional career, and we will certainly benefit from getting to know Nicolas better, and through his contributions to our team.  It is an exciting time for JDI, and an exciting time to be a part of the JDI Finance team. Congratulations Nicolas!"

JDI continues to hire qualified accountants and business graduates and is proud to support students who are choosing to pursue accounting careers. In fact, JDI is currently supporting six students entering the J.D. Irving CPA Training Program and an additional seven who will be writing their CFE in September, and look forward to supporting many more!
