HALIFAX, NS:  Ann Mellema, Director of Program Governance, has been honoured by the Women's Executive Network (WXN) 2015 Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award Winner.

Launched in 2003, the Top 100 Awards celebrate the incredible accomplishments of Canada’s top female executive talent as well as their organizations and networks.  The theme of this year’s Top 100 Award is Collective Impact, a quality that Ann reflects in her commitment to engineering excellence.

In her role as Director of Program Governance, Ann is responsible for quality, strong program management processes, and governance in support of building Canada’s new naval combat ships.

Born and raised in Halifax, Ann holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Engineering (Honors, Applied Mechanics) from Queen’s University and an MBA from Dalhousie University.  Ann brings over 25 years of experience in line management, operational management, project management, and organizational change.  Her facilitation of sustainable improvement in her profession, in the community, and at Irving Shipbuilding is a major contribution she brings to all her chosen endeavors.

Ann is an active volunteer within her profession, and recently completed a term as President of Engineers Nova Scotia.  She consistently works closely with future generations of engineering students and professionals to advance their careers, and was responsible for setting a new national standard of mobility with Engineers Nova Scotia’s Continuing Professional Development Program.

Ann’s international volunteer commitments have taken her to Tanzania, Africa, Ecuador, and Costa Rica, and she now considers sharing her experiences with youth groups to be a crucial step in opening young minds to the global community.

“Ann is a valued member of ISI’s senior management team, and her devoted dedication and focus is critical to our ongoing success,” said Kevin McCoy, President, Irving Shipbuilding. “Ann exemplifies the standards and expectations of her profession, and we are proud of her achievements.”

The Top 100 Awards serve to recognize talented leaders in the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors and to inspire the current and next generation to push the boundaries of what’s possible.

“For these highly accomplished women, receiving a Top 100 Award means much more than recognition or a chance to share the spotlight with other remarkable Winners, it’s an opportunity to pay it forward,” says WXN founder, Pamela Jeffery. “WXN Top 100 Award Winners are powerful women both in their careers and their potential to transcend boundaries to have a greater impact on the communities around them.”
The team at Irving Shipbuilding Inc. congratulates Ann on this significant achievement.
