Atlantic Towing welcomes large scale delivery for construction of two new supply vessels

HALIFAX, NS – In the coming days the heavy lift vessel (HLV) MV Happy Sky will arrive in Halifax Harbour carrying large scale components for the construction of Atlantic Towing Limited’s two new state-of-the-art, ice-strength Platform Supply Vessels (PSV).

The PSVs are being constructed by Damen Shipyard Group and Irving Shipbuilding Inc.

The design and initial stages of construction were completed by Damen Shipyard Group at its shipyard in Galati, Romania. MV Happy Sky will deliver large scale components, including the vessels’ superstructures, to Irving Shipbuilding Inc.’s Halifax Shipyard, where construction will be completed.

This will be the first of three deliveries related to the two new PSVs, with two 90 metre hulls being individually towed in Halifax Harbour in the next week.

The construction work on both vessels is planned to be completed later this year, with the vessels being delivered to Atlantic Towing in early 2017.

The new PSVs will operate out of St. John’s, NL as part of Atlantic Towing’s offshore support contract with ExxonMobil Canada Properties and Hibernia Management and Development Company Ltd. (HMDC).

Atlantic Towing, a J.D. Irving company, operates the largest and most modern working fleet of offshore supply vessels in Canada.
