Construction of the new KENT store in West Saint John is well underway, with its grand opening expected this spring.

"We're excited about serving new customers in West Saint John," said Chris Hatt, Human Resources Director for JDI's Retail Division, "and we're building a West Saint John team to welcome those new customers."

KENT held a two-day job fair in Saint John last week, with an impressive turnout of 440 people who filled out applications.

In many cases, the new KENT employees will be from the community; so when the new store opens its doors, these employees will be welcoming customers who may also be their friends and neighbours.

"It takes a big effort to start up a brand-new store, and there's a lot of pride involved when it's done," said Hatt. "Our new employees will help set up the store and make it their own. We want to make this store the West Saint John store."

Kent will require 50 employees for the new store. Hiring and training begins this winter.

Between now and 2015, JDI will require over 6500 new employees, in part because of new growth like the 50 new KENT jobs in West Saint John.
