The annual Cavendish Farms Grower Banquet honouring the top potato growers was held recently in Charlottetown, PEI. The Top Grower for the 2013-2014 crop was the Schurman family of Dunk River Farms in Summerside, PEI.
 
"Congratulations to Dunk River Farms, a deserving recipient of this award," said Ron Clow, vice president of Cavendish Farms. "Our commitment to quality for our customers begins with our partnership with farmers. The Schurman family's long-standing dedication to growing excellent potatoes is a great example of that partnership."

Each load of potatoes delivered to Cavendish facilities is graded based on a number of different criteria including colour, defects, gravity, cleanliness, and overall professionalism of the grower. Points are allocated for each category and top growers are selected based on their total accumulated points for the crop year.
 
Cavendish Farms’ two processing plants on PEI use 1.2 billion pounds of potatoes per year from 90 farm families.
