Civil, mechanical, industrial, chemical, electrical, naval, software - for JDI, the skills of our 1000+ engineering graduates are vital to our continued growth, modernization, and improvement. We celebrate their commitment to engineering excellence! To promote the profession and showcase our team, below are the stories of 11 JDI Engineers, what they enjoy about their projects and what sparked their interest in the profession. 

We also celebrate the Atlantic Canadian Engineering Schools who great partners in building skilled graduates and co-op students - our next generation of professionals. 

1. Idania Carcamo, Associate Project Manager, Gulf Operators is one of 105 University of New Brunswick engineering alumni growing a career at JDI. Idania studied civil engineering and is now growing her career as part of JDI's construction and equipment division. 

2. Christina Brimingham is a Memorial University of Newfoundland mechanical engineering co-op student working at Irving Paper in Saint John, New Brunswick this semester. There are 62 MUN engineering alumni working across JDI operations. 
Christina became interested in construction, design and building at an early age, “I chose engineering because my father raised me on construction sites and in his workshop. The workshop that my brother and I helped him build from the concrete up. When I got my first car in high school, it did not run. My Dad, brother, and I spent many hours in the workshop fixing that car-making something with our own two hands that did something and served a purpose. The knowledge, enjoyment, and pride which came from the achievements of my childhood instilled a thirst and drive to know more, do more, be more, and engineering will help me with that.”

3. Marc Richard, Production & Process Improvement Manager for Atlas Truss and Shamrock Truss, graduated from Université de Moncton in mechanical engineering. Marc is one of 27 Université de Moncton engineering alumni part of the JDI team. 

4. To build the best ships, we need the best people. Jessica Lockhart, a graduate of Dalhousie University is an Industrial Engineer at the Halifax Shipyard. There are 79 other DAL engineering graduates working across JDI operations. 

5. Matt Kingston knows first-hand that JDI invests in their people. While studying civil engineering at UNB Matt completed co-op work terms at JDI and was offered a job before Convocation. Now, three years into his career, he’s been offered a seat as one of 28 JDI emerging leaders part of the Executive Masters of Business Administration program through the Richard Ivey School of Business. 

6. It’s a small space but a big challenge. Sam Forestell, Project Engineer at Kent Home was part of the team tasked with designing the Kent Homes Micro Home. Watch this video to see UNB civil engineering grad Sam on the launch day for this green small living solution.

7. A JDI co-op during his mechanical engineering degree at UNB led Julien Raby to his career with JDI’s Construction and Equipment Division. Julien and his team are part of a variety of projects, even a special dig on Oak Island, Nova Scotia.

8. After Scott MacDonald’s first mechanical engineering co-op with JDI he was invited back for subsequent work terms. By taking initiative, Scott was able to gain practical experience in a variety of projects as a young engineer. This led to a letter of offer before he completed his education at UNB.

9. Kersti Lee is part of the JDI Careers in Motion program and will be returning this summer to work with the team at New Brunswick Southern Rail. Civil engineering student Kersti cites exposure to new technology as well as office and field experience as key reasons why she’s returning for another term. 

10. Liane Sandula, is a Quality Control Engineer at the Halifax Shipyard. The DAL graduate, who studied resource and environmental management is part of the team ensuring quality in building Ships for Canada.

11. Angie Davis is a leader on JDI's Information Technology team as the Manager of App Development, GIS and Business Intelligence. Angie says her degree at Dalhousie university equipped her with the skills she needed for her career.
