Drivers of RST Sunbury Safety Programs See Prestigious Awards

Headquartered in Saint John NB, RST Sunbury is a premier truck transportation company specializing in US and Canadian cross-border shipments, tank transportation and logistics services. Safety is critical in the trucking industry, and two key members of the company’s safety team were recently recognized by the Canadian Society of Safety Engineers (CSSE), New Brunswick Chapter for their extraordinary contributions to health and safety, and the protection of workers.

 RST Award

Jill Whitbone, an Asset Claims Coordinator with RST Sunbury’s Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) team, was nominated for, and received the ‘New to the Safety Profession Award.’ This award provides an opportunity for safety professionals, with less than 5 years in the profession, to be recognized for their professional accomplishments within their Chapters.  Jill was nominated due to her strong work ethic, promotion of safe work practices and risk reduction, and her strong commitment to community involvement, continual education and fundraising for Steps for Life, a cause dedicated to helping families impacted by workplace tragedies.

“I am honoured to receive this award from the CSSE NB Chapter,” commented Whitbone, “And, I am fortunate to be part of a team that is dedicated to ensuring that everyone goes home safely."

Shawn Reilly, Director of HSSE and RST Emergency Response Services, received the ‘Outstanding Service to the Safety Profession’ award at the CSSE October ceremony. This award is given to CSSE members whose careers have been distinguished by a sustained commitment to excellence in the field of occupational health and safety, outside of the CSSE. Shawn’s nomination was informed by his sustained involvement with Steps for Life, professional achievements, and his efforts to promote public understanding of, interest in and support for health and safety.

“I am honored to have been nominated for, and for receipt of, this award,” said Reilly. “I am grateful to the CSSE NB Chapter for allowing me the opportunity to serve not only as a member, but also as a Board Member and for helping to make our workplace safer. At home, work or play, I believe everyone should go home safe for all the moments that matter most."

Whitbone, who helped nominate Reilly for his award added, “Shawn is a transformation leader that empowers his team. He inspires us to be creative in the ways in which we envision the future of our Safety Culture across the organization. Our thoughts and ideas are valued, and we are constantly encouraged to think outside of the box.  This has resulted in a team that is truly engaged in encouraging Health and Safety across the Company.”

The CSSE awards program provides the opportunity to recognize and celebrate excellence in health and safety, whether for a special project, an outstanding achievement or a lifelong commitment to the betterment of the health and safety profession at the CSSE chapter, regional, and national levels. In addition to RST Sunbury, many J.D. Irving, Limited member businesses are proud members of the CSSE New Brunswick Chapter.

J.D. Irving, Limited offers its heartfelt congratulations to both Shawn and Jill on the receipt of these awards!
