Engineering Safety in the Sawmills

March 11, 2022

Safety is the key to our operations. We want to make sure that our employees go home to their families every day. Mélanie Nadeau is one of a dozen Health & Safety team members in the Division, ensuring that our operations run as safely as possible. She is also one of the 55 employees with an Engineering background currently working in the Sawmill Division.

Mélanie earned her Bachelor of Engineering, Chemical from the University of Ottawa, and has maintained her P.Eng designation since then. She now works in Northern New Brunswick, where she is the Health and Safety Coordinator for the Clair Value Added centre.

"I have always had an interest in STEM and Engineering seemed to be the next logical step for a career. It was a challenge that I wanted to undertake and prove to myself that I could be successful in this profession. I enjoy seeing the big picture in things, and I knew that an engineering career was a flexible path for a long career," says Mélanie.

Mélanie joined the JDI team in 2018 as a Safety Advisor, she spent a year and a half in Continuous Improvement at the St. Leonard Sawmill before returning to the site Safety Coordinator at Clair. She came to JDI after nearly 20 years in the Oil and Gas industry, which took her all the way to Alaska, and throughout Alberta.

The Sawmill Division is always looking for new talent to join our team. If you're currently enrolled in an Engineering program, or have experience in an Engineering capacity, you can apply today here or reach out directly to our Recruiting team at sawmills@jdirving.com.
