“Gold Medal” for Safe Driving

Gilles Godbout, a truck driver and owner-operator with Midland, is celebrating a very special achievement – 5 million miles accident free! He joins an exclusive club, as he is only the third person to receive this distinction. Gilles was recently honoured at the Million Mile Banquet, which recognizes Midland driving professionals who have reached milestones of accident-free driving.

Gilles is humbled by the recognition he’s been receiving. His co-workers at the terminals are offering many words of congratulations. His wife posted pictures on Facebook of him getting the award and it received over 400 likes.

Mr. Robert K. Irving, President of Midland offered his congratulations as well, “we’re proud to have a driver like Gilles on our team. His focus on safety and impeccable record make him a role model to all. I want to congratulate him on this impressive achievement.”

Gilles is from Saint-Jacques, New Brunswick and grew up in the transportation industry. His father owned a trucking company so he was around trucks from an early age. Since joining Midland in 1981, his love for his truck and his attention to detail is notorious. His colleagues often point out that his truck is pristine and looks better than when it was in the showroom. This attention to detail extends to safety as well, where he is vigilant in spotting potential hazards.

Gilles said he feels grateful to work for a company that makes safety a priority and salutes employees who live these values. “I am over the moon that the company would recognize me for this achievement. I’ve always been focused on safety and I believe there are many things we can do to prevent accidents. Receiving this award feels like getting my Olympic gold medal.”
