Hampton High School Greenhouse

J.D. Irving, Limited is proud to partner with Hampton High School to provide the lumber needed for their new greenhouse project.

Oliva DesRoches, a grade 12 student at Hampton High School, was happy to hear that the school would be moving forward with a greenhouse. Last year, Hampton High students watched the documentary Before the Flood. DesRoches’ grade 11 math class decided to come up with a way to give back to the community while doing something positive for the environment. The Greenhouse came about with the intention of using the produce in the school’s culinary tech class, and selling any flowers grown in the community.

“We’re so excited for this project and it’s crazy that it’s finally starting to happen,” said DesRoches, who was also awarded the Young Women for Nature Award from Nature Canada. DesRoches was awarded the Young Nature Leadership Grant to help with the cost of the greenhouse.

Her Honor, Jocelyne Roy-Vienneau, Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick was inducted into Women for Nature along with Olivia.

Construction of the greenhouse has already started, and the hope is for the building to be weather tight by mid-December.
