Halifax, NS: Cody McGregor, son of Rodney McGregor, Halifax Shipyard Machinist, and Lydia Hayward, daughter of Jonathan Smith, Halifax Shipyard Welder, were the first two recipients of the Irving Shipbuilding Scholarships.  Kevin McCoy, President of Irving Shipbuilding, presented the $1,000 post-secondary scholarships at the company's quarterly employee information meetings.

The scholarship award is based on a student's academic achievements as well as their community involvement. Cody will be attending his last year at Acadia University in the fall and Lydia is enrolled to study at Saint Mary's University.

The annual Irving Shipbuilding Scholarship was introduced in May 2014, after the company received a suggestion for the program from an employee's spouse. There were 20 applicants for the first scholarships and the company hopes to see many more applications as the program continues.  Best of luck at school this fall!
