Irving Woodlands, LLC named Business of the Year

Irving Woodlands, LLC and Irving Forest Products Inc. has been recognized for its dedication to Aroostook County through its investments in the region.  The company received the Business of the Year Award, presented by the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce this month in Presque Isle, Maine.

The Business of the Year Award is given to a business that has demonstrated investment, economic growth, and job creation in the area.

“Irving Woodlands has been part of Aroostook County for over 65 years,” said Karen Gonya, President of the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce.  “The local communities in our area value the partnership with Irving and the economic activity and job creation that the company brings to our region.”

“We are grateful for this recognition,” said Toby Pineo, Manager of the new state-of-the-art Ashland Sawmill that officially opened in Nashville Plantation, Maine, last October.  “Aroostook County is a great place to work and sustain healthy communities.  The company’s $35million investment in the new mill has created 60 new permanent jobs in the community.”

Irving Woodlands, LLC has 147 employees in the region.  The company is proud of its partnership with the University of Maine and local community colleges that are providing the skilled workforce of the future.  The company continues to hire in the state for its forestry operations and currently requires over 125 people between now and 2016.

“We are continuing to grow our operations in Aroostook County, while employing the latest technology and science to ensure that our operations are efficient and environmentally sound,” said Peter Tabor, Irving Woodlands’ Regional Woodlands Manager in Maine.

All of Irving Woodlands, LLC’s operations in Maine are certified under the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C041515) program.  Our operations are independently audited according to ISO 14000 environmental standards and are also certified under the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) forest certification.
