As part of J.D. Irving, Limited (JDI)’s continued commitment to the Partners Assisting Local Schools (PALS) program, JDI employees volunteer their time helping children in their local community. A group of ten J.D. Irving, Limited employees spend their lunch hour every Tuesday and Thursday helping serve lunch to the children of Prince Charles School in partnership with Boys & Girls Club of Saint John.

The Boys & Girls Club of Saint John has been involved in the lunch program for upwards of 40 years. This year, there are approximately 75 children who attend daily – they are hoping to have 100 children registered in the New Year.

“Supporting these children and providing them with a hot meal every day is something that we are very proud of,” said Amanda Downey, Program Director, Boys & Girls Club of Saint John. “It is important because for some children, this may be the only meal they eat in a day.  The people at JDI are caring neighbours and we appreciate the support of volunteer partners like JDI. The company has been a generous contributor of volunteer time and funding for many years.”

Katie Houseman, Client Services Coordinator, J.D. Irving, Limited has been volunteering with the lunch program for over two and a half years. “It’s all about the kids,” said Houseman. “It is certainly rewarding seeing the children’s faces each week. We are happy to help.”
