JDI Funds 28 JDI Employees through Ivey School of Business Executive Master of Business Administration Program

28 J.D. Irving, Limited (JDI) employees from across eight business divisions have been accepted into the JDI Ivey School of Business Executive Master of Business Administration.

Matt Kingston, from Darling’s Island, New Brunswick is one of the 28 employees beginning his EMBA in 2017. Three years into his career as a Project and Aggregate Manager at Gulf Operators, Kingston was offered the opportunity to enter a company-supported EMBA.
“I just graduated from my undergrad three years ago,” said Kingston, a UNB engineering grad. “So when I was offered the opportunity to do my MBA, it came as a surprise. I feel very honoured to be selected. Knowing this company wants to invest in me is motivating and exciting.”
Among Kingston’s classmates will be Dalhousie University grad Jenna Hazelton. “I’m looking forward to taking this opportunity to develop my leadership skills,” said Hazelton, Process Engineer at Irving Paper. “I’m relatively new in my career; I’ve been with JDI for five years. My drive and commitment to learning hasn’t gone unnoticed. It means so much to me to have the company invest in my future.”

The JDI Ivey EMBA program began in 2008. Since then 66 employees have graduated from the program.

Colleen Baxter, Vice President of Human Resources for J.D. Irving, Limited is a graduate of the JDI Ivey EMBA program. “We pride ourselves on offering excellent professional development courses and training for employees at all levels of the organization. Ivey is an excellent educational partner for us, helping to develop our leadership,” she said. Baxter described how the JDI Ivey EMBA program is unique, “J.D. Irving and R. K. Irving wanted the MBA program designed in a way that would minimize impact on the business and time taken away from families. During the 18-month program, participants take on projects connected to challenges and opportunities in a variety of business divisions.”

Mary Gillett is the Faculty Director for the JDI Ivey EMBA. Gillett has taught executive education and the EMBA program to JDI employees for 15 years. “What has impressed me most is the commitment and engagement of the company leadership and JDI employees.  Across the organization, these employees are focused on improving the business. With experience spanning several industries, it’s an enriching learning environment.  This is a company that is dedicated to realizing the potential of its people.”

This wave of JDI employees pursuing their EMBAs will begin in 2017, with graduation celebrations occurring in October 2018,
